The Iditarod Project
![]()

The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is a race from Anchorage, Alaska to Nome, Alaska. It begins each year on the first Saturday in March and the winner usually arrives in Nome at least eight days later. Mushers and dogs go through some of the most rugged terrain in North America during the course of the race.
Following the progress of the Iditarod race has become a favorite Tuscarora School project. Students and staff read about the mushers, then select the one they wish to follow. Daily updates are received from the official Iditarod web site and progress is posted on a map in the school's main hallway. The competition is fierce and students become very involved with the well being and progress of "their" musher and his or her dogs.
