About the Tuscarora School
![]()

The Tuscarora School was begun in
1952, occupied in 1953, and completed in 1954. Since that time
the building was renovated with the addition of six additional
classrooms, and a medical clinic facility in 1974-75. The
basement area was also remodeled to create a dental clinic and
two classrooms. Other facilities include a Library-Media center
which was created from two former classrooms during the work on
the new addition. The large gymnasium also serves as an
auditorium for programs and assemblies. The community uses this
area for sports and other events after school hours.
In 1995-97 the school went through a complete renovation. The new
facility now includes a large language and culture area,
additional classrooms, special pre-kindergarten and kindergarten
facilities, a technology and media center, a counseling center, a
staff workroom and face-lifts in all areas of the building.
Special earthtone colors were chosen for both the inside and the
outside of the building. The design on the outside of the
building is symbolic of the cradleboard used to carry babies.
Though work was scheduled to be completed in September 1996,
completion was actually achieved in mid 1997.
The building currently houses approximately 130 students in
grades Pre-Kindergarten through six as well as a medical clinic
for the reservation. After sixth grade, Tuscarora students attend
Niagara-Wheatfield Central Schools in Sanborn, NY.
